A longer assignment is posted under files with tips and an example. The goal is to read the language closely but goes beyond just labeling something as a metaphor. Instead, you will say Sheridan employs that metaphor to do something…build a character, play with the topic, wink at the audience, make us consider how we think about others…whatever you see.
I am interested in getting you to work on a skill of close reading that we can build on as we approach our final papers. This response will help me assess where you are and what we need to do as a class to read more closely.
