Unit One Assignment

The organization that I have chosen to use is a past employer Behavioral Health Svc of South Georgia. The organization’s business strategy is “To be the leading provider of comprehensive and quality behavioral health and developmental disabilities services for all people, and their mission statement is,” To lead our community in providing excellent treatment, service and education in the areas of behavioral health and developmental disabilities, fostering meaningful opportunities for mind and body wellness. “An organization organization’s that have better access to internal or external valued knowledge and resources, which allows them to make better decisions than their competitors are competitive advantage (Macfarland, 2014, pp 264). BHS has been operating for more than twenty years and provides mental health, substance abuse, as well as services for adults who are intellectually and developmentally disabled. I would say that BHS has a competitive advantage since the organization is also managed by RN’S and professional medical staff such as Psychiatrists. This in turn allows this organization to be able to administer thorough and personal patient care services.

BHS is centered across ten counties in Georgia, and the target market are those who would need to receive personal care, mental health and substance abuse care management, other services offered such as where the patients would prefer to seek care from the privacy of their homes via the organization. To specify the organization targets those who have long term care insurance as well as may be on a waiver program or is able to afford these services cash. More specifically persons that have long-term care insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.

I would say the main resource that needs to be completed is for the organization to focus more on expanding their human capital as far as the quality of their staff. This would seem to be the priority as far as a business need due to the fact that this will also help to boost their competitive benefit or advantage of offering quality service. If the organization cannot expand their human capital via the quality of staff or caregivers, it will be very difficult for the organization to retain their clientele that will be needed for the organization to continue produce the necessary amount of revenue to be deemed profitable. For BHS to be to incorporate this business need, they will need to assure that all staff have the requires and necessary skills, conduct, and clarity involving the organizations expectations and the standards of the organization via the onboarding training program (Werner, & DeSimone, 2012). This must be followed through via operational teamwork with joint effort, innovation and being 100% invested in the patient.

The quickest route to reproduce a generous competitive advantage if by influencing new employees to acclimate to performance and social conditions via the organization, which can generate revenue (Baldwin, 2016.) So, this means that the onboarding employee orientation program will need to be analyzed and revised in order to strategically explain the standards of performance and the social organizational gauge to stop new employees from encountering any challenges. It is paramount to engage in sufficient communication due to the being of socialization contributes in healthy synergy amid new employees and their managers (Werner, & DeSimone, 2012). According to a Bloomberg Businessweek article titled, “Employee Engagement — What It Is and Why You Need It,” engagement can have a tangible impact on profit. The article went on to concur that organizations that had engaged employees increased their operating income over 19 percent which was compared to organizations who had the lowest employee engagement that fell 33 percent.
