Requirements
This assignment requires that you look at three compositions that are similar in content and purpose but are composed using different means of communication. You should aim to show someone not versed in rhetoric what makes these compositions rhetorically different from each other and why the difference makes each appropriate for a different audience and/or purpose.

What you will need to do
Step One:
Find the three compositions that are similar in content and purpose but are composed using different means of communication posted on your BbLearn site. One of the compositions is the “Martha Stewart’s Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe” you used for all of your journals. (NOTE: if you have problems finding these, stop now and contact your instructor.)

Step Two:
Analyze each of these compositions using the terms described in the “How To” and “Questions to Ask” boxes in chapter two:
• Investigating exigence, page 30
• Determine a communication’s purpose, pages 36-37
• Thinking about modality, page 40
• Thinking about medium, page 41
• Thinking about genre, page 43
• Thinking about circulation, page 46

Step Three:
Fill-in the provided chart that helps you to analyze and shows the difference between each of these rhetorical compositions. Then, using at least five of the terms described in the rhetorical star (exigence, audience, purpose, modality(s), medium, genre, and circulation) write a one-paragraph argument (about 10 sentences) that tells the reader which of the compositions would be most appropriate for an audience of middle school students taking a home economics course who need to bake a perfect chocolate chip cookie to pass their class.

Assessment
The following outcomes will be used as the means for assessing your work for this assignment:
● I have filled out the chart completely and correctly.
● I have a clear main point in my argument paragraph.
● I have correctly identified, analyzed, and referenced at least five rhetorical elements to support my argument.
● I have a clear conclusion in my argument.
● I have correctly followed the conventions of English appropriate for my assigned audience and genre.
