English;critical analysis
Requirements: Write a critical analysis of the assigned research article. In an essay of at least 500 words (approximately 2 double-spaced pages):
(a) Identify the aspects of the research process that correspond to:
• the research question;
• theory;
• hypothesis (if present);
• sampling (who/what data was collected on and/or where data was collected);
• variable measurement (the observations made about the sample);
• findings; and
• conclusions
(b) From this list, identify one weakness of the research process and explain why it is a weakness.
Grading:
1. I will not strictly grade page length. I expect that you’ll need at least two double-spaced pages
to fully answer above questions. However, I am far more concerned with whether you
completely answer the questions at hand than length.
2. At least half (and preferably more) of your essay should be devoted to item (b), identifying and
explaining one weakness of the research.
3. The essay will be graded based upon both content (70%) and mechanics (30%). Your content
score will be based upon your ability to produce:
• an accurate interpretation of the research process described by article,
• a valid critique of the article, and
• whether your paper carefully and fully addresses all stated requirements.
Your mechanics score will based on whether your writing exhibits:
• only occasional errors in spelling, grammar, and sentence construction;
• frequent errors that do not interfere with reading comprehension; or
• frequent errors do interfere with reading comprehension.
