journalism homework – analyzing article – Clippings Diaries

Hi there

accompanied by a 300 word analysis of the relevance of the clipping to your Australian Media studies.

The clipping will be about some media topic. What is required is thoughtful analysis, not just a restatement of the facts of the article. Extra marks will be given for evidence of extra reading you have done about the topic. The items must be current news items, as the idea of this assessment item is to develop knowledge of the current state of Australia’s media industries.

Make sure you get the length and format right, including adding the topic, three main points, then the analysis.

You don’t need to spend any time in the analysis section recapping the media story you have chosen – that’s what the bullet points are for.

·         In the analysis, you should demonstrate (perhaps using snippets from the story to supplement) why the story is important, which might include: historical context, links to other issues or industries, links to regulation/policy, media traditions etc.

To do this well (and to qualify for more than a pass), you’ll need to integrate some other sources – make sure you reference these in text, and include an APA referencing list.

·         Avoid unsubstantiated claims like “people don’t like reading newspapers any more”. Instead, back these sorts of statements up with research (for eg, in this case falling circulation figures).

·         Make sure you get the length and format right, including adding the topic, three main points, then the analysis. If you’re not sure, check the Study Guide for details.
