Case Study
You work on a busy medical unit. Your patient population is very diverse, ranging from patients who are transferred from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while recovering from a critical illness to those are who are admitted for a medical condition from a Long Term Care Facility (LTC). Over the past 3 months there has been an increase in the number and severity of Pressure Injuries (PI). Your quality improvement council discusses ways in which education could be helpful to review best practices for the prevention and treatment of PIs. Both traditional classroom and online learning options are suggested with little agreement as to which would work best in the long-term.

The council agrees to conduct a study comparing learning outcomes about PIs from both educational approaches. Educational classes are prepared and delivered using both classroom and online educational formats. Thirty registered nurse employees from the unit are divided into two groups, with half being randomly assigned to receive education about PIs in the classroom environment and the other half being assigned to receive education about PIs in an online environment. Following the education interventions using both strategies, the nurses are required to take an identical quiz with broad areas of: assessment, protocol, and prevention. The scores from the quizzes will help to guide ongoing educational efforts in PI.

As a newly prepared BSN nurse, you are asked to help prepare the report from the findings of the study. The problem statement, study questions, and methodologies are already completed. You are to help with the literature review, Excel Spreadsheet data entry, and interpretation. You are to summarize the study and literature findings and briefly identify a conclusion or recommendation regarding a proposed educational intervention.

Your involvement for the Excel Spreadsheet portion includes:
1.Completing an Excel Spreadsheet with the calculations of the study;
2.Creating a graph comparing the two types of approaches on learning outcomes;
3.Drawing conclusions from the study findings.

THESE ARE THE DELIVERABLES FOR ASSIGNMENT 2

Directions: Assignment 2. A partially completed Excel template will be provided (Template) . Additionally, data elements for completing the Excel Spreadsheet will be provided (Data Elements). A prototype is provided for your reference:
1.You will be asked to complete the Excel Spreadsheet with the provided data elements and to do aggregates (in the form of an average percentage) for at least two of the following data reports: a.Comparison of total of knowledge scores per education intervention type for Classroom vs. Online. These scores are in the form of percentages.
b.Comparison of knowledge scores of Assessment factors for Classroom vs. Online. These scores are in the form of percentages.
c.Comparison of knowledge scores of Prevention factors for Classroom vs. Online. These scores are in the form of percentages.
d.Comparison of knowledge scores of Intervention protocol factors for Classroom vs. Online. These scores are in the form of percentages.

2.Create at least one graphic to reflect a pertinent finding (a bar graph will fit this data well) using percentages and proper labels.
3.Write an interpretive statement (not just a summary) of what the data might mean for using one type of educational intervention over another for nursing care.

Note: You can place your graphs and other summary statements on page 2 of your Excel Workbook if you like.
