Although I am a millennial that grew up in the tech era and am able to quickly grasp new technologies, I do not have a tech background. I found it very interesting that the leadership roles in IT are evolving to include those with business expertise as well. As we have learned from Magal in our textbook, the global marketplace is becoming increasingly competitive, and IS is an important tool for businesses to keep up in this fast-paced environment. So, it is important for non-IS managers to still possess some general knowledge of IS in order to make informed IS decisions to benefit their company’s IS strategy. This article reinforces the concept of the Information Systems Strategy Triangle, reminding us that business strategy, organizational strategy and IS strategy are interdependent to a company’s success. As stated in the article, IT is increasingly becoming “a business strategy enabler”, meaning that technology is an integral part of business. The example used int he article of Francis Li is a great example of the importance of the Information Systems Strategy Triangle. Li’s experience in multiple fields of business allow him to be more innovative and to make the most informed decisions possible. He is able to relate his IS experience with his marketing and sales experience to develop successful strategies for his company by linking these two fields together.  Write response

I enjoyed this article because it gave me hope and confirmation on what I want to do with my future. My goal when I first started grad school was to find a job that I could ultimately see my self doing for the long run. The Term CMO came up and I researched it and realized that this is exactly what I wanted to do, and the demand for this position will only continue to increase from this year forward.  It is not always about what product or service a company can provide but the brand identity and how it is precieved to its customers. Consumers want to feel comforted and have that trust when buying into a brand. Digital and Innovation chiefs are in demand because they are able to understand what is in the now and apply that to the company or brand they work for. It can be difficult to transform a brand that is based off of traditional customs not reliant on technology to thrive to today’s world.

CMO’s affect every part of the brand through Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, and Customer Service and will continue to stay relevant for some time to come  Write response In this article, Friedman states how technology is essentially making the world “flat”, with rising interconnections. Changes in technology across the globe has a formed a system in which intelligent work and money could be circulated from almost any point on the planet. Friedman notes 10 events that resulted in the world being “flattened, which includes the fall of the Berlin Wall, Netscape going public (which sparked internet browsing), and Open-sourcing. These first few sequence of events set the stage for collaboration while the next events extended it. Also, the development of wireless access and VoIP revolutions of mobile technology and web collaboration made the world even more “flat.” Friedman stresses that the American labor force needs to refocus to remain relevant in the 21st century, and that hard science research is the only way to prevent the country from falling. In my opinion, the overall theme of this reading was that much of today’s world is interconnected in some way, where a decision or action in one place can be felt in another. And proper action must be taken in order to see a change.

Write response 1 day ago Bradley Garlock  Disruptive Genius  COLLAPSE  This article was quite fascinating. It summarizes the idea that innovation in technology often times disrupts the environment to often times devastating effects. The article lists many example including the evolution of computer disk drives (hard drives and floppys), iPhones, and automotive changes. Another one not mentioned by the article would be the Blackberry. Prior to the Blackberrry mobile devices primarily were used for talking and very little text messaging. However, the Blackberry revolutionized the cellular industry by allowing business work emails to come straight to the phones. Logging into a website that had to be secured was not a thing of the past. Of course Blackberry (owned by RIM), was unable to keep up with the disruptive innovation presented by smart phones such as Apple and Samsung. After some patton issue and law suits they were all but out. When you think about the short lived life of ttechnological products it is quite amazing. Within a matter of months companies can go from sitting atop of the technology pile to no longer even a relevant part of it. This dog eat dog atmosphere, though stressful, it is key for innovation, growth, and continued capitalism.  Write response 22 hours ago Amanda Hornick  The Jobs We Will Lose to Machines  COLLAPSE  The Jobs We Will Lose to Machines  While the TED talk about the jobs humans will lose to machines was interesting, I don’t believe it was very informative. Machines taking over jobs has becoming something that has been expected and normalized. The speaker, Anthony Goldbloom, states that “we have no chance of competing with machines on frequent, high volume tasks”, however, machines cannot compete with humans when it comes to “novel situations”. I feel this is great step for humanity as the machines take all of the frequently high-volume jobs, we can focus on more creative work. Humans can create jobs that will let one think outside the box. Having machines at our side with the data can help propel us forward to a new age where we can perhaps do more than just explore the deep trenches of ocean and space, but perhaps live there.

These machines are welcomed to business owners who want to get the faster and better service out to their customers as well as the most affordable service. It is likely that a machine that can do what a human can do is very expensive, but with time the investment would pay for itself if there are human capital savings.  It is absolutely inevitable for organizations to acquire technology to make improvements overall, this has been the norm and will continue to be the norm as long as organizations like the one in the video continue to develop better ways to improve tasks.  My fear has always been that all the time I have put into school will not matter in the future and all I learn will be irrelevant. It does give me piece of mind to know that there are things like “novel situations” that cannot be solved by machines. This means that as long as I stay relevant and continue to develop the knowledge I have, I will always stay current with the business world.
