Make sure you make an argument, with a thesis! You should put your text in
political and historical context of its time, by showing how it addresses–or
takes for granted– issues of power and privilege. You should not do outside
research for this paper. For your historical information, use the period
introduction or author introduction in the Longman Anthology volume of your
text. (Ex., if you choose Equiano, use the introduction to vol. 2A, “The
Romantics and their Contemporaries.”)
Include at least three quotations from your literary text, and at least two
references–quotations or paraphrases–to the Longman Anthology
introductions. Use MLA documentation style.
